Visy had safety issues with forklift speed at a number of sites which required the ability to set the maximum speed in single or multiple zones while also ensuring that drivers were using restraints and that only authorized drivers could operate specific vehicles.

Challenge:

With various operational needs across locations Australia-wide, different Visy sites have varying speed and acceleration control requirements. The challenge was to implement new systems without disruption and with immediate effect.

Solution:

Speedshield Technologies' Speed and Acceleration Control, RFID Zone-Based Speed Control, Logic-Based Driver Restraints, and Driver Authorization and Transmission Control are all integrated seamlessly to improve safety compliance.

Results:

Once put into operation, Speedshield Technologies' solutions ensured that approved drivers only operated forklifts and vehicle speeds were controlled.

Furthermore, the solution only allowed drivers to use seatbelts correctly. Combinations of seat, seatbelt, and handbrake interlocks were used to set alarms and power down should the operator not engage or disengage the interlocks in the correct order.

The solution also protected vehicle transmissions from being forced forward or reverse when traveling in the opposite direction.
